Over the years, many of the homes we’ve lived in have been older, and it’s not uncommon for their unique features to be lost during renovations. Homeowners often update light fixtures, kitchen cabinets, and floor plans to reflect contemporary tastes. However, occasionally, you find a home that has been remarkably preserved, with its original charm intact. One such gem is a 1968 house in Iowa that has been maintained exactly as it was, aside from routine cleaning.
This single-story ranch-style house, complete with an attached garage and full basement, is showcased by home inspector Matt Baker. The first thing that catches your eye is the distinctive front door with its charming trapezoid window—a delightful detail that has been preserved.
Stepping inside, you’re greeted with a treasure trove of original features. The home boasts vintage light fixtures, wood paneling, a mod stone fireplace, and even the original square thermostat adorned with diamond and stardust designs. The house is sparsely furnished, but the intact finishes transport you back in time.
Every room is adorned with a different shade of retro carpet, ranging from blue to beige to pink. The original light switches, ceiling fixtures, copper range hood, and scalloped wooden molding around the doorways have all been preserved, adding to the home’s nostalgic appeal.
The true highlight of this home is the basement. It features walls covered in glittery stucco, faux brick, and additional wood paneling. The basement also includes a small kitchen with the original harvest gold stove and refrigerator, along with door bead dividers that complete the vintage look. It’s a complete time capsule!
It’s remarkable that this house, owned by the same family since 1968, has retained nearly all of its original features without any major alterations.
