Instructions
1. Prepare the Dough:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, sugar, instant yeast, and salt. Mix well.
- Make a well in the center and add the warm milk, vegetable oil (or melted butter), and vanilla extract (if using).
- Mix until a sticky dough forms. You can use a wooden spoon or your hands.
2. Knead the Dough:
- Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, until smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, you can add a little more flour as needed.
3. First Rise:
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
4. Shape the Bread:
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release any air bubbles.
- Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and shape it into a loaf. You can either shape it into a round or rectangular loaf, depending on your preference.
- Place the shaped dough in a greased 9×5-inch (23×13 cm) loaf pan.
5. Second Rise:
- Cover the loaf with a kitchen towel and let it rise again in a warm place for about 30-45 minutes, or until it rises slightly above the rim of the pan.
6. Preheat the Oven:
- While the dough is rising, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
7. Bake the Bread:
- If desired, brush the top of the dough with a little milk for a golden crust.
- Bake the bread in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
8. Cool and Slice:
- Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Once cooled, slice the bread and enjoy!
Tips:
- This bread is perfect for sandwiches, toast, or simply with butter and jam.
- You can also add herbs or spices to the dough for additional flavor.
- Store any leftover bread in an airtight container at room temperature for a few days, or freeze it for longer storage.
