6 Vegetables and Herbs You Can Grow Indoors

Due to the limited supply of organic foods and the extra work and maintenance required to produce them, you may be paying significantly more for an organic banana. Fortunately, there are several vegetables and herbs you can grow indoors using parts of produce you would otherwise discard. This can save you quite a bit of money next time you go grocery shopping.

  • Celery: To grow celery at home, cut off the base of a celery stalk and place it in a container with warm water. Keep it in full sun, and within a week, new growth will appear. Transplant it into soil for continued growth.
  • Romaine Lettuce and Bok Choy: Save the base of romaine lettuce or Bok Choy in a container with a bit of warm water. Place it in sunlight, and new leaves will sprout in a week or two. Transfer to soil for full maturity.
  • Garlic: Use garlic cloves with sprouts by placing them in water and sunlight to grow mild-flavored garlic sprouts, perfect for salads, pastas, or as garnish.
