The Ingredients: A Recipe for Connection

The allure of Marry Me Pasta lies in its relatively simple ingredients, combined in a way that transforms them into something truly special. Let’s break down the ingredients that make this dish a culinary love letter:

What You’ll Need:

  • 1 pound pasta (penne, farfalle, or your favorite shape): Choose a pasta that holds sauce well, creating a mouthful of flavor. The shape you choose can also set the tone; for example, heart-shaped pasta might be perfect for a romantic dinner.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil: Essential for sautéing your vegetables and adding richness to the dish.
  • 1 onion, diced: Provides a foundational flavor that enhances the overall taste profile.
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced: The aromatic touch that adds depth and a fragrant quality to the sauce.
  • 1 (14.5 oz) can crushed tomatoes: The heart of the sauce, giving the dish its rich red color and tangy flavor.
  • ½ cup sun-dried tomatoes, chopped (optional): Adds a sweet, slightly tangy element that elevates the dish.
  • 1 cup heavy cream: The luxurious ingredient that makes this pasta creamy and irresistible.
  • ½ cup chicken broth: Provides additional depth and flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon paprika: Adds a smoky sweetness that complements the other flavors.
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano: A classic herb that adds a Mediterranean flair.
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste: Essential for balancing flavors and enhancing the dish overall.
  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts or shrimp (cooked and chopped): Protein options to make the dish hearty. Both choices embody a robust flavor that melds perfectly in the sauce.
  • Fresh basil leaves, for garnish: A fresh touch that adds color and aromatic flavor.
  • Parmesan cheese, for serving (optional): A treat to amplify the dish’s creamy texture.

Step-by-Step Instructions: Cooking Up Romance

Now that we’ve explored the allure of Marry Me Pasta, it’s time to roll up your sleeves and start cooking. Follow these straightforward steps to whip up this delectable dish:

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Pasta: In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the pasta according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. Sauté the Aromatics: In a large skillet over medium heat, add olive oil. Once hot, add the diced onion and sauté until translucent, about 4-5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and sauté for another minute until fragrant.
  3. Create the Sauce: Stir in the crushed tomatoes, sun-dried tomatoes (if using), heavy cream, and chicken broth. Add paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir well and let the mixture simmer for about 8-10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  4. Add the Protein: Add your cooked chicken or shrimp into the sauce, stirring to combine. Let it simmer for an additional 5 minutes, ensuring everything is heated through.
  5. Combine Pasta and Sauce: Add the cooked pasta to the sauce, tossing to coat every piece in the creamy goodness.
  6. Serve: Plate the pasta, garnishing with fresh basil leaves and a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese, if desired.
  7. Enjoy: Sit down with your special someone—or treat yourself—and savor every mouthful of this love-infused dish.

      Mary Me Pasta

      Ingredients:

1 pound pasta (penne, farfalle, or your favorite)
      1 tablespoon olive oil
      1 onion, diced
      3 cloves garlic, minced
1 (14.5 oz) can crushed tomatoes
½ cup sun-dried tomatoes, chopped (optional)
      1 cup heavy cream
      ½ cup chicken broth
      1 teaspoon paprika
      1 teaspoon dried oregano
Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts or shrimp (cooked and chopped)
      Fresh basil leaves, for garnish
      Parmesan cheese, for serving (optional)
      Instructions:

Cook the pasta according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in the garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
Add crushed tomatoes, sun-dried tomatoes (if using), chicken broth, paprika, and oregano. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Stir in the heavy cream and simmer for an additional 5 minutes, or until slightly thickened.
Add the cooked chicken or shrimp to the sauce and heat through.
To create the heart shape (optional): Spoon half the pasta onto a serving plate. Using a spoon, push a heart-shaped indentation in the center. Fill the indentation with sauce, then top with the remaining pasta.
Garnish with fresh basil leaves and serve with grated Parmesan cheese, if desired.
      Tips and Twists:

Play with Protein: Swap chicken or shrimp for Italian sausage, salmon, or even tofu for a vegetarian option.
Lighten Up: Opt for low-fat milk or yogurt instead of heavy cream for a lighter sauce.
Spice it Up: Add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a kick.
Get Creative with the Heart: Pipe the sauce into a heart shape on the plate instead of relying on the pasta shape.
Make it Vegan: Use a vegan cream alternative and plant-based protein like lentils or chickpeas.

However, it’s undeniably a delicious and visually appealing dish that’s perfect for a special occasion or simply a delightful weeknight dinner. • This recipe was a huge hit with my family. I made the recipe just as written except I used the chicken strips made for fajitas from the frozen section. It's already grilled and seasoned and very tender. The only thing was the pasta (I used farfalle) was dry. There wasn't enough sauce (personal preference) so I made another batch of just the sauce and added it. We like our pasta wet. Next time I will double the recipe of the sauce from the beginning. I will definitely make this again and perhaps use shrimp or both. I wonder how this would be with spinach? Or what other vegetable might be good with this? For now we are enjoying this with garlic toast and a side salad. Thank you for sharing.
