- Press into Pan: Press the mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking pan.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Remove from the oven and set aside
Step 2: Prepare the Filling

- Add the sugar: Gradually add the granulated sugar and beat until well combined.
- Incorporate the eggs: Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Stir in lemon flavor: Stir in the lemon juice, lemon zest, and vanilla extract until combined.
Step 3: Combine with the Crust
- Pour the filling: Pour the cream cheese filling evenly over the prepared crust.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the filling is set. The edges should be golden brown.
- Let cool: Let the bars cool completely in the pan before cutting.
Step 4: Make the Lemon Topping
- Whisk together: In a small bowl, whisk together the sugar, flour, eggs, lemon juice, and lemon zest until smooth.
- Pour over the bars: Pour the lemon topping evenly over the cooled bars.
- Bake again: Bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the topping is set and golden brown.
- Cool completely: Let the bars cool completely before cutting.
Step 5: Dust with powdered sugar
- Dust the cooled bars with powdered sugar for a finishing touch.
Tips:
- For a more intense lemon flavor, increase the amount of lemon juice and zest.
- You can also add a pinch of salt to the filling for a more balanced flavor.
- For a variation, add a layer of fresh whipped cream or a drizzle of lemon curd on top of the bars.
